Weatherchem’s facility and product offerings continue to grow in 2009 despite a slowing economy. Our recent addition of four new electric presses enabled us to meet the challenge to be more sustainable while also expanding our operations. Additionally, we recently added the new 63mm Single-Flap Flapper® line to our list of standard products with two unique dispensing options. The pour option is perfect for on-the-go snack foods and pet treats while the directional pour is ideal for nutritional powders and coffee creamers. Lastly, in an effort to meet the growing consumer demand for more convenient OTC and supplement packaging, Weatherchem will be offering a 10% discount off your first order of NutraFlappers® in 2009 to support this segment.
Stay Tuned for our Fall Newsletter! We’ll be introducing several improvements and additions to our existing product lines!

SUSTAINABILITY NEWS
|
As part of a continuous sustainability improvement program, Weatherchem has designed all of its new products to be as light as possible while still maintaining overall functionality. We have also introduced many sustainable initiatives to reduce waste and energy usage including:
- A new sift resistant, fully contained closure that eliminates a liner
- Making the paper and foils in liners thinner
- Reducing our scrap by 50% annually over the past three years
- Implementing a company-wide recycling program
- Purchasing four new electric presses that utilize approximately 30% less energy and are cleaner than traditional hydraulic presses
In 2008, we purchased four new electric presses, which require a minimum of 30% less energy and are cleaner than traditional hydraulic presses. In 2009, Weatherchem will replace two additional hydraulic presses with electric presses and will install a green energy chiller that uses Ohio weather to cool its presses naturally.

SUCCESS STORY
|
Over 80 years ago, one man started making maple syrup as a hobby and had a single delivery route through only two states. Today, Anderson’s Maple Syrup, Inc. is one of the largest pure maple syrup packaging facilities in the Midwest United States. Steve Anderson now owns the company his grandfather started. With a stack of steaming pancakes on their plate, consumers are eager to get their hands on a bottle of Anderson's Maple Syrup.
The problem is, with a conventional screw cap, those consumers would get the syrup itself on their hands. The syrup would dribble down the side of the bottle after each use. Anderson says, "the LiquiFlapper® lets the consumer control the flow of the syrup and the lip cuts off the flow cleanly. The no mess feature greatly separates us from the competition. Also, the LiquiFlapper Closure has a nice, sleek design. It even comes in a burgundy color that matches our label design. All this complements our 'Premium Brand—Premium Appearance' principle." As perfect as Anderson's Maple Syrup is on pancakes, so is Weatherchem's LiquiFlapper Dispensing Closure on the Anderson's Maple Syrup bottle.

It is with great sadness that we inform you that we are mourning the loss of a dear friend and coworker, Michael Bechtold, as he lost his courageous battle with cancer on February 26th, 2009 at the age of 59.
Michael has been in the packaging industry for over 25 years and he served as Weatherchem's Vice President of Sales for the past 9 years. We were fortunate to have Mike at our sales helm for these years driving us to new heights and many successes. Mike's enthusiasm for work and his family was a quality that many admired. Mike's passion for life is a gracious example for all of us.
